Putting contract talks and his wish to leave aside, Ganso put in a superb performance for Santos, helping them to a 3-1 win over Mogi Mirim in the São Paulo State Championship.
It’s been a difficult few weeks for the young player but he has shown time and again that he can handle the pressure on his young shoulders. Santos are in disaray – without a coach and on the brink in the Copa Libertadores. On top of that, Neymar and Elano are away with the seleção, preparing for the Scotland friendly in London. So with reason, Santos fans could have been fearing the worst going into tonight’s game.
But what where they worrying about? Despite his desire to leave for Europe, as long as he is wearing a Santos shirt, Ganso is class and will give it 100%. And that was easily enough to see off Mogi Mirim at home. The player had a hand in all three Santos goals. Class I tell you, class. And another thing, despite all the noise about his desire to leave the club, he wasn’t even booed by the home fans. I think that says just how highly they regard him.
