Fluminense put in a massive effort to come from behind and beat América-MEX (from Mexico) 3-2 and keep alive their chances in the 2011 Copa Libertadores.

The club have lost their coach and are having a rotten time of it this season. After two points from three games, Fluminense were trailing 2-1 against América, with just over ten minutes to go. That was it. They were staring down the barrel of a gun. Realistically, not even a draw would have been enough. But somehow they did it. Araújo equalised with 11 minutes to go. And then, Deco – a big money signing who hasn’t lived up to his name yet – popped up to score the winner with two minutes left on the clock. Wild scenes among the smallish crowd (of around 14,000 Fluminense fans).

Fluminense are now third in the group with 5 points from 4 matches. América are on six points while Argentinos Juniors lead the group with 7 points. Still all to play for. Fluminense’s last two games will be away from home though.
