Seleção squad for Colombia and Argentina friendlies

Kaká and Neymar (Mowa)

Brazil play Colombia in a friendly match this evening in New Jersey. Mano’s squad includes most of the team that did so well in the last couple of games against Iraq and Japan. That means Kaká keeps his place alongside the likes of Neymar, Hulk and Oscar. Basically, out go Alex Sandro, Dedé, Fernando and Victor and in come Arouca, Fábio Santos and Arouca.

Full squad:

Jefferson (Botafogo), Diego Alves (Valencia), Fábio Santos (Corinthians), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Adriano (Barcelona), David Luiz (Chelsea), Leandro Castan (Roma), Réver (Atlético-MG), Thiago Silva (PSG), Arouca (Santos), Paulinho (Corinthians), Ramires (Chelsea), Sandro Ranieri (Tottenham), Giuliano (Dnipro), Thiago Neves (Fluminense), Kaká (Real Madrid), Oscar (Chelsea), Hulk (Zenit), Lucas Moura (São Paulo), Neymar (Santos), Leandro Damião (Internacional)

Mano has also named a squad for next week’s rearranged Superclássico das Americas against Argentina. Only locally based players have been called up and one of the biggest surprises was Durval, the Santos defender. For those of you who do not know him, lets just say he is not what you would expect of your typical Brazil international – not particularly elegant. Not very good either for that matter. Honest, hard-working professional though so it’s not entirely fair to take the piss out of him completely (he was trending on twitter earlier today for mainly the wrong reasons).

Mano Menezes did actually hint that he may not have originally been in his squad: ”It’s a position that I’ve been careful with. Dedé is out injured. I thought about Rhodolfo but São Paulo are in the Sul-Americana. We needed somebody with experience and who has had a good season”. Meia-culpa Mano? Making excuses already…?

Here is the full squad for that game. Fluminense’s magic duo Fred and Diego Cavalieri were deservedly, and finally, called up by Mano. Jean’s good form for Flu has also paid off and the defensive midfielder gets a call. So does Carlinhos and Thiago Neves (both Flu). Atlético-MG had four players called up: Marcos Rocha, Réver, Bernard and Leonardo Silva.  Notably, no Ronaldinho. What does a man need to do? Honestly…?

What does Durval have that Ronaldinho doesn’t….?

Here is the full squad for that game. It’ll be played next Wednesday 21 November. Not sure of the time but since its in Argentina, probably around 10pm local time, 12am UK time.

Cavalieri (Flu), Jefferson (Botafogo), Carlinhos (Flu), Marcos Rocha (Atlético-MG), Fábio Santos (Corinthians), Lucas Marques (Botafogo), Durval (Santos), Leonardo Silva (Atlético-MG), Réver (Atlético-MG), Arouca (Santos), Jean (Flu), Paulinho (Corinthians), Ralf (Corinthians), Bernard (Atlético-MG), Fellype Gabriel (Botafogo), Thiago Neves Fred (Flu), Neymar (Santos), Leandro Damião (Inter)

    • Can’t really comment for Mano, but probably. PROBABLY because São Paulo have an important match in the Sul-Americana. He said thats why he didn’t call up Rhodolfo. Stupid calendar, stupid match. What is the point in playing Argentina with your B team?? Or C team…

  1. Brazil win the Superclássico!!!!

Sense the sarcasm with all the exclamation marks. Brazil had their best player on the field (Neymar) and Argentina obviously didn’t due to the rules of this game. Argentina won the match 2-1 which meant the aggregate score was 3-3. Brazil won the penalty shootout though and Neymar scored the winner, overcoming his poor spot kick in the 1-1 draw with Colombia a week earlier.

Perhaps the biggest point of interest in this is that after much stick Durval got his first cap and fair play to him – he was pretty damn pleased a gracious about winning his first cap and rightly so. Mano also has some strong praise for the player who is technically pretty terrible (for a Brazilian) but the personification of hard work!

    Brazil line-up against Argentina:

Diego Cavalieri; Lucas Marques (Bernard), Rever, Durval and Fábio Santos (Carlinhos); Ralf, Paulinho, Arouca (Jean) and Tiago Neves; Neymar and Fred.
