USA v seleÒ«ão preview

Hulk celebrates one of his two goals against Denmark (Mowa Press)

As part of their preparations for the Olympic Games in London the seleÒ«ão take on the USA in Washington DC tonight.

Mano Menezes has announced his team and made two changes from the team that beat Denmark 3-1 on Saturday. Neymar starts in place of Lucas Moura and Santos keeper Rafael Cabral makes his debut for the seleÒ«ão and takes the place of Jefferson.

Explaining the inclusion of Neymar for Lucas, Mano Menezes said: ”The tactical positioning is the same as against Denmark. The difference is that Neymar is living a special moment compared to Lucas although people expect big things from Lucas, myself included. But we have to recognise that Neymar is on a different level.”

Thanks for clearing that up Mano, as if anybody has any doubts.

Anyway, I didn’t see Saturday’s game. Did anybody? Would be good to have your thoughts if you did. Hulk scored two goals and it’s good to see him finally get a decent chance and take it for the seleÒ«ão.  I’m assuming he’ll start on the right of the attack against the USA with Neymar on the left and Leandro Damião in the middle.

Full team: Rafael Cabral, Danilo, Thiago Silva, Juan, Marcelo; Sandro, Rí´mulo, Oscar; Neymar, Hulk, Leandro Damião

Reserves: Neto, Rafael, Bruno Uvini, Alex Sandro, Casemiro, Lucas, Giuliano, Alexandre Pato, Wellington Nem

  1. Cheers guys. I’ll go for Brazil although ive got no idea how strong the US team is at the moment. Where is Ganso? I dont know. He didnt play for Santos on the weekend and did play a full 90 mins in the Libertadores last week so beats me. Injured again? Hopefully not….

    • Jeez again!!!! Guess he’ll miss the Olympics then. What a shame!

Good win last night then 4-1!!!!

  2. Ganso is said to be back before Olympics, in time actually for Libertadores finals (to watch the finals on tv that is because Corinthians has to take this one!).

Great win by Brazil. This is a very experienced young team, perhaps the Olympic team with the most years playing professionally despite the young age.

They applied a lot of pressure, constantly making the US defense throw the ball away. Speaking of which the US defense played very poorly. I don’t think Brazil’s offense will have such an easy time getting through against other teams in the tournament

    • Good if he’s back for the olympics. Lets see if that really happens. Remeber last year he wet to the Copa America but wasn’t fit and he and Brazil played badly.

Looks like hes getting a bad of getting injured at the most mportant point in the season. Bad news for Santos and Brazil!!!! Good news for you and Corinthains i guess 😉
