Corinthians thrashed the league leaders São Paulo 5-0 on Sunday afternoon thanks to three goals from Portugal international striker Liedson. Corinthians have become something of a bogey team for São Paulo and so it proved again on Sunday afternoon. Continue reading

Ronaldinho finally finds his form for Flamengo
After a lacklustre couple of months with goals mainly coming from penalties and free kicks, Ronaldinho finally put on a show for Flamengo as they brushed past Atlético Mineiro 4-1 on Saturday night in the Serie A. Continue reading
Santos win 2011 Copa Libertadores
Santos have won the 2011 Copa (it’s a disgrace) Libertadores. They beat Peí±arol 2-1 in the final second leg tonight. Unfortunately a mass brawl involving both sets of players, club officials and other unknown people ensued at the of the match. The Santos players accused the Peí±arol players of being sore losers but the Brazilian press later reported that the brawl started when somebody dressed stewards uniform hit a Peí±arol player for absolutely no reason. No matter who started it, everybody involved should be ashamed. What a disgrace! Why does this happen so often in Libertadores matches? It happened after the final last year and in the match between Fluminense and Argentinos Juniors earlier this year. Continue reading
Libertadores final: difficult night for Neymar but advantage Santos
After the drama of volcanic eruptions in Chile and the subsequent ash cloud that has covered most of southern South America, the Copa Libertadores final first leg finally got the go-ahead to be played on Wednesday night as scheduled.
In front of 60,000 screaming Peí±arol fans (including Diego Forlán), who put on quite a spectacle, Santos will be the happier of the two teams after they came away from the match with a 0-0 draw. Not a bad result at all for Neymar and co. especially because away goals count for nothing in the final, unlike previous rounds. Continue reading
It’s back! Vasco win Brazilian Cup
After a two week leave of absence, brazilfooty.com is back! My sincere apologies for the bad timing of the break (if only it was in the middle of the State Championships instead of crunch Libertadores, Brazilian Cup and league matches!) but real life got in the way as it sometimes does. Quite a lot has happened so without further ado let me get started. Continue reading
Two week break
Readers,
Unfortunately some real life commitments of mine mean that I am going to have to take a two week break from updating this blog. Sorry about that. For any urgent questions (eg. has Neymar signed for Barcelona) send me an email brian@brazilfooty.com and i’ll do my best to reply. Otherwise you can follow the latest Brazilian football scores on soccernet.

See you in June,

Why the Brazilian Championship is so hard to predict
Just in case my predictions go horribly wrong, I am writing my excuses now. The Brazilian Serie A is the hardest league in the world to predict (no sitting on the fence here) and here are the reasons why: Continue reading
Brazilian Championship: The big kick off
The Brazilian National Championship kicked off yesterday afternoon which makes my report at least one day late. Sorry about that! Better late than never, right? In my report, I give a short comment on each of the twenty teams and my prediction about where they will finish in the league table. For a full explanation on Brazilian football and all of the club competitions see this link. Continue reading
Santos into Libertadores semi-final
Santos drew with Once Caldas in a chilly São Paulo to reach the last four of the Copa Libertadores. Neymar, once again, was the star of the show; he scored the goal in the 1-1 draw (which classified Santos 2-1 on aggregate) and was a constant outlet for Santos down the left hand side of the field. State Championships come to an end
After months of football, the Brazilian State Championships came to a dramatic close today. Starting in São Paulo, Santos won the local competition for the second successive year, beating Corinthians 2-1 in a tense but ultimately low quality game of football. Continue reading
